/ 8:00 PM hey all. okay, yesterday was like our kumz club debut match. i was like so hyped up about the whole thing lah. i mean, we were gonna play our first official match with a ref and all. and it almost turned into a disaster when the warden of the field we initially booked refused to let us play cause the pitch was in a so called "unplayable condition". well, we din't really see it, our opponents did, but it could not have been that bad right? luckily, there was the commonwealth field. only problem was that there were no lines and the pitch was muddy. but we decided to go on with it. then the ref decided to pop by late. like what oni lah. he still dared make so much noise. FINALLY, we could get the game started. well, a little intro on our opposition. they're called the slayers. they have trained and played together for much longer then us. plus, then are the type who will book a field for just normal playing. that just sacked the odds agains us lah. plus we had no substitutes. dickson and ram couldn't make it and shauqi was gonna have a race on wednesday and din't want to risk injury. this meant that gan and anboo had to play up with jun kai and huz as the wingers and hisyam and myself as the center mids and sathia, capt. kumz, sri and satish as defenders and of course our goalie ami. but our starting wasn't very good. they had a lot of possesion and i din't drop back enough, almost playing as a third striker. but we did take our chances when it came. a long ball forward was headed goalwards by hisyam. the defender attempted to volley it away, but only succeeded in deflecting the ball towards his keeper. the keeper could not use his hand or it will be a back pass, so he tried to dribble away from me and clear the ball. but hisyam managed to nick the ball off the goalie and pass it across goal, giving me the simplest of tap ins. we were 1-0 up. i have to admitt that i was really pleased to be the scorer of the first official kumz club goal. but we still could not get a foothold of the match and they equalised in the most fortunate manner. they got possesion in midfield and as their player advanced, he unleashed a long range effort that seemed to be a comfortable save for ami. but miscommunication between him and sri resulted in sri sticking out his leg just as ami dived. the ball deflected off sri's leg and went in. 1-1 it became. the devastating thing was that we conceded that goal about a minute before half time. during half time we came with a few tactical changes. huz, who was really beginning to feel unwell but had to play cause we had no subs, moved to left back with jun kai on left mid. on the other side, satish and sri interchaged between right back and right mid. this really gave us more stability as the second half began. we began to get a foothold on the came and slowly started dominating possesion. and sure enough, the break through soon came. gan got the ball in midfield before passing to jun kai. i decided to make the overlapping run behind the defense and he threaded a beautiful through pass to me. one on one, i took most of the chance and converted from an angle. we were 2-1 up! i was really in cloud nine. we were defying the odds. we could have won by a bigger margin had the ref not wrongly flag anboo offside. they piled the pressure on us in the last 15 minutes but we held on. i dropped to defensive mid with hisyam doing the job in center mid alone. the ref's wistle was like music to our ears. we did it. we won. it was a great feeling. all of us played exceptionally well. ami, sathia, capt. kumz, satish, sri, jun kai, huz, hisyam, gan, anboo and myself. we did it. after the match, all of us went to the top of the carpark for a good, well deserved bath before heading off to imm for dinner. then it was home sweet home. but even though my body wasa aching, it was a day to remember (: kumz club all the way! |
